Mofijul Islam has been actively engaged in the field of autism and
developmental disabilities since 2002. Over more than two decades, he has
worked extensively in autism education, advocacy, disability inclusion,
rehabilitation, community-based support, project management, and capacity
building.
Over the years, he has led and contributed to multiple developmental initiatives, including four projects supported by international donor agencies between 2007 and 2022. His professional journey reflects a sustained commitment to improving educational opportunities, inclusion, empowerment, and quality of life for individuals with autism and other developmental disabilities.
Mr. Islam has participated in numerous international conferences, expert meetings, training programs, workshops, and professional forums across Asia and Europe. His international engagements include:
· Speaker at the Euro-Global Summit on Autism Research and Awareness, held on 23–24 March 2026 at the Holiday Inn Berlin, Germany, where he shared his professional experience and perspectives on autism education, research, awareness, inclusion, and community-based support.
· Serving as an Organizing Committee Member (OCM) for the World Forum on Neurology and Brain Disorders, scheduled for 19–20 April 2027 in Rome, Italy.
· Participation in the 2nd European Autism Congress 2020 in Budapest, Hungary, where he delivered a session titled “Autism Rickshaw Lecture: The Challenges of Autism, Development Cooperation, and Future Visions.”
· Completion of the Disability Inclusive Development Train-the-Trainers Intensive Workshop in Seoul, South Korea (2019), conducted under the auspices of the Korean Disabled People’s Development Institute (KODDI) and the Harvard Law School Project on Disability.
· Participation in specialized training on project work, advocacy, and autism education in Finland in May 2009 and May 2011.
· Active participation in the WHO-SEARO Expert Committee Meeting on Community-Based Approaches to Autism, held in Bangkok, Thailand, in September 2010.
· Participation in the Autism Spectrum Disorder and Developmental Disabilities Conference, organized by WHO-SEARO and the Government of Bangladesh, held from 25–29 July 2011.
· Participation in the Development Education Summer School, organized by DEEEP, held in Finland in 2011 and the Czech Republic in 2012.
· Completion of the Queen’s Certificate Online Program on Disability in Community-Based Rehabilitation (CBR) and International Development, offered by the International Centre for the Advancement of Community Based Rehabilitation (ICACBR), Queen’s University, Canada, in 2014.
· Serving as a Resource Person at the international autism conference Pathways to an Inclusive Life, organized by SOPAN, in Mumbai, India, 22–24 February 2018.
· Presentation of a research poster titled “Promote Sexual Health Education for Persons with Autism and Other Disabilities” at the 2nd International Conference on Autism, organized by the India Autism Centre, in January 2020.
Through these extensive professional and international experiences, Mr. Islam has contributed to autism education, disability inclusion, advocacy, policy dialogue, research awareness, professional capacity building, and community-based approaches to supporting individuals with autism and developmental disabilities.
As Executive Director of Moonflower Autism Foundation, he continues to work toward strengthening educational, therapeutic, vocational, and life-skills opportunities for children and adults with autism, while promoting greater awareness, inclusion, and participation of persons with disabilities in society.
